RFID and Police Chief gets chip implant
Police Chief gets chip implant
The Police Chief of Bergen County, New Jersey, is the latest authority figure to endorse human ID-chip implants by going under the needle himself. Jack Schmidig, the county's top cop, has been injected in the arm with a VeriChip implantable ID-chip, the company that makes the chips said on Friday.
The chip transmits a unique 16-digit ID number via radio frequency. The makers of VeriChip are encouraging hospitals to use the technology to instantly retrieve patients' medical records and reduce errors in treatment.
Other proponents of the technology who have undergone implants include New Jersey businessman Joseph Krull and Harvard Medical School's Dr. John Halamka.
